The Thursday evening Clap for Carers was a relatively short lived moment during the Covid 19 Lockdown. I painted this for an online competition at that time. When I thought about what image could represent our experience, it was this unprecedented, simple community response. Signs went up, pavements were chalked with NHS rainbows and, as well as clapping, people banged pans and played instruments. The street is invented but is intended to be a typical Swansea road. I had in mind an area like Sandfields (on the flat was better for the composition). The picture has flattened perspective making all the houses the same size. It gave me a chance to imagine a variety of occupiers and lifestyles. The painting was selected for the Glynn Vivian Open Exhibition in 2021. Oil on canvas. 30cm x 100cm. Sold.
