The Ragged Schools were built to educate the children of the poor. The present building in Pleasant Street was built in 1911 to replace the  first one built in 1847. It was used for religious meetings for many years. It is not in great condition now. I started this painting under an overcast sky. When the sun came out behind the building it was dazzling but it was an effect I wanted to try to capture. Oil on board.
