Storm Franklin Abates

Storm Franklin was one of the powerful storms of February 2022. This is one of those occasions when I based my painting on a photograph because although this was at the end of the storm, when things were calming down, the wind was still pretty strong. I liked the light coming low across the sea and the mist created by the spray. Although the photograph is a starting point, I didn't slavishly follow it. For example, the sea is my version of the waves and the rocks are an approximation. I could have worked more detail into the sea but I prefer the loose painterly form of the water. It seems to me to have more sense of movement that way. Oil on canvas. 60 x 50 cm.
