Rue des Refuses

I painted this standing in the shade of a tree near the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. A young man on a skateboard asked me why I was painting it. I thought about this and responded that it was probably the same reason as he was skateboarding; I wanted to. I added figues later and thought about all those who have to take their rejected work from the gallery after the selection panel for the Swansea Open. Been there, done that. Oil on canvas. Sold.

Somewhat ironically, this was actually selected for the 2023 Swansea Open in the Glynn Vivian (despite the title!) but another picture I put forward for that exhibition was rejected. And that was the one that I thought would be accepted. C'est la vie!
