Rotherslade into the sun

I paint Rotherslade quite a lot, partly because it is so close to our house. This picture was painted with the sun behind the rock. This creates a dramatic effect and I like painting the light glancing off the wet rocks. However, it means the canvas is in shadow and the view very bright so it is hard on the eyes. The sun insisted on moving round the sky which added to the challenge. I am quite pleased with the rendering of the pebbles. It is difficult to know how much detail to attempt to convey the texture of stones without getting bogged down in detail.
